PEAKS TRAIL Time Trial  August 26-27, 2020

UPDATE as of 8.25.20

The Peaks Trail TT has been postponed/delayed for 24 hours.
Racing is now from 5:00pm Wednesday August 26 to 8:00pm Thursday August 27

We’re going a bit more traditional for this one with ONE SEGMENT for ALL CATEGORIES.
Also, there is NOT an Enduro-only category.

This year’s course is different than previous renditions for a variety of reasons. Specifically, we are not using the very beginning of the Peaks Trail. This is to avoid an area heavily used by hikers. Instead, the course climbs Nordic trails, DESCENDS the lower part of ZENDO TRAIL, merges with Peaks Trail and heads north to Frisco.

Please check out the Course Description section for more details including maps.

**Also, and perhaps more importantly, please ride with the expectation that you will encounter other users. This is the one course I’m the most concerned about with regard to user conflict. As in a normal year, the course is not “closed” so please be cool out there. I recommend riding the course Tuesday evening, first thing Wednesday morning (before 8:00am), or later in the day on Wednesday.

***Smoke considerations-Air quality has been best in the mornings.

The course will be marked and ready for racing by 5:00 pm on Tuesday August 25
Course will be closed at 8:00 pm on Wednesday August 26
NO NIGHT RIDING ALLOWED (safety reasons)

THE FORMAT and STRAVA INFO

Is this VIRTUAL? No, not really. Riders will be on a real course. It’s ACTUAL or NATURAL.

Here’s what we’ll do:

  • Create the segments
  • Mark the course
  • Verify your ride
  • Compile Results by Category
  • Award prizes to Top 3 in each category
  • Compile Overall Standings

Here’s what you do:

  • Register at Bikereg.com.
  • Have a STRAVA profile (free versions available) and be familiar with how to use it.
  • Ride the segments accurately and in the permissible timeframe (from Tuesday August 25 at 5:00pm to Wednesday August 26 at 8:00pm NO NIGHT RIDING)
  • Be super cool to other users on the trail system.

All racers will need a STRAVA user profile. There are two ways to use Strava: 1.  Download the App to your phone.

  • Make sure GPS is enabled
  • Phone is charged
  • Make sure Battery Saving mode is OFF
  • Hit Record…and then hit Start
  • A rolling start is necessary for accurate timing.
    • Hit “Record” and “Start” before you go past the very 1st Start Segment Sign.
    • Do not stop recording between segments. Just let Strava do its thing.
    • Ride well past the Finish Segment sign before you hit “Stop”>”Finish”>”Save” (this terminology is Strava-specific. We recognize that those riding with GPS head units have different steps and lingo)
  • Strava will recognize the portion of your ride that matches our Strava Segment and we’ll take it from there
  1. Use a GPS unit from a company such as Garmin, Suunto, Polar.
  • Ride the course.
  • Upload to Strava after your ride
  • Strava will match your Ride to our Segments and we’ll take it from there.

DIRECTIONS & PARKING

This is another point-to-point race so where you park depends much on where you are coming from.
If you ride this as one BIG LOOP it’s approximately 20 MILES.

The event starts on the Breckenridge end and finishes in Frisco, EXCEPT FOR THE KIDS’ COURSE. The KIDS’ COURSE is contained on the BRECKENRIDGE end of the Peaks Trail.

Here is an OVERVIEW MAP of the layout from the Peaks Trail Head in Breckenridge to the Miners Creek Trail Head in Frisco. The actual timed segment is a portion of this map. See the Course Description section for more details on your actual course.

PARKING SUGGESTIONS:
Parking Option #1: Park at Highside Brewery in Frisco and ride to Breckenridge….then race to Frisco.
Parking Option #2: Park in the Breckenridge Airport Road Parking Lot and ride to the Start…then after you finish, spin back to your car.
Parking Option #3: CMC Lot or Summit High School Lots and ride to the Start…then after you finish, spin back to your car.

Of course there is the option of getting dropped off at the start and picked up at the finish.
Drop off at Peaks Trail Head and pick up at Miners Creek Trail Head
